Early Career

After qualifying, I set up practice in my own clinic and herbal dispensary at Byres Road, in Glasgow. It was an immediate success and grew rapidly over the next five years.

Although Glasgow was extremely demanding for me in terms of patient numbers, which averaged eighty per week, I look back on this time as wholly and positively formative. I learnt an enormous amount of practical clinical application from my Glasgow patients – and continue to do so as many of them stay in touch still.

There were many opportunities for professional development outwith my Clinic. As well as the usual talks, lectures and teaching courses that are a standard feature of a herbal career, in 1993 I was lucky enough to take part in an anthropological field trip to work with the Pokot tribe of North Kenya in documenting their use of traditional herbal medicine.

Womens' Health Workshops

I was the Medical Herbalist input into a series of groundbreaking and immensely enjoyable Womens' Health weekends held on the Isle of Tiree.
